TESTIMONIALS
Ameeta Sharma (Chronic Pain)

I have suffered terrible problems with my back for most of my adult life.. Remedies that were offered were ineffective, and the side effects of the medication make me so ill, I stopped taking them.. Standing for any length of time became sheer agony, and could only be eased by lying down for long periods of time. My working day was often affected by the pain in my back, and my ability to keep fit, or enjoy a social life became harder. My lower back pain controlled my life, and over a period of time, I accepted that I would live my life with a degree of pain and incapacity which would sometimes be eased with massage, Volterol, or copious amounts of wine.

A friend found a leaflet for Adrienne Golembo at the Aspire centre in Stanmore and suggested I call her. Making that call changed my health and attitude toward my back. Adrienne is a refreshing change from all the other professionals who gave me no hope for improvement and told me to accept that this was as good as it was ever going to get. Adrienne gave me every indication that she could help me and within a few days of visiting her and a Home Assessment, my back improved. She worked with me on very basic everyday tasks like washing up, opening my fridge, loading and unloading my washing machine, making my bed, and even sitting and standing. She corrected the way I undertook all these tasks, and showed me how to do them without harming myself further. I was even shown how to walk without pain, and how to arrange my bed so that I could sleep without any discomfort. Regular visits to Adrienne have centred around back and body strengthening and mobilising exercises, and more work on posture as well as dealing with “episodes” of severe pain as and when they occur.

I have followed her advice and her exercise regime to the letter, and am in my sixth month without pain. My Chiropractor and the local chemist have lost out on business, but I am happier and healthier than I have been in a very long time. I don’t despair about my back, and no longer dread getting out of bed. I am reassured that if I should suffer another severe “ episode” I can practice what I have learnt and if necessary call Adrienne and she will talk me through the pain and advise me on what else to do to relieve it. This is one of the best decisions I have made, and am so pleased that I picked up the phone and called her all those months ago.

In closing I would say that anyone who has suffered with persistent pain should at least talk to Adrienne. If she can’t help, she will tell you. It is worth an initial chat. I call her “healing hands Adrienne” for a reason. (Jan 2006)
