Brenda Mailer - Head Mistress (Chronic pain & Acute Episodes of pain)
Brenda had sufferedwith acute episodes of back pain for over 10 years when she joined the B4 Programme. “My pain was constantat the time of joining the programme and was often aggravated by having to lift small children. I had a variety of treatments over the years none of which helped long term”. After attending B4 Programme: I learnt how to do things correctly and safely and I now feelin control of my back problem instead of it controlling me. Occasionally when I have mild back pain I can help myself by doing the exercise and relaxation techniques learnt. The Building Better Backs and Bodies Programme is an excellent self-help programme that has dramatically changed my life. I am so grateful to Adrienne for teaching me how to help myself and control and prevent my back pain.
Dr
Sylvia Abramov – GP (Acute Episodes of pain)
Sylvia suffered from repeated episodes of acute pain. After attending B4 Programme: “I attended the Building Better Backs & Bodies Programme from May -September in 2000 and found it to be extremely useful. Several of my patients have been to Adrienne and I continue to highly recommend my patients with back problems to attend this excellent programme.”(2005)
Deanna
Levine – Solicitor (Acute groin pain)
Deanna had several sessions of physiotherapy and osteopathy for treatment of groin pain, but the pain remained. She then had an initial consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon and was on the point of having investigations carried out, when she was recommended to Adrienne Golembo. After B4 Remedial massage & exercise: I am delighted to say that, with a series
of massage sessions and some special exercises. Adrienne
has managed successfully to get rid of this pain. I attend
Adrienne’s weekly exercise classes which I find very helpful,
as I suffer from a variety of pains now and again in my neck,
shoulders, knees and back. Adrienne has developed an ingenious
exercise regime which I personally find hugely helpful.
Richard Conway – MD Training
company (Whiplash Injury)
“I was
driving my car when it was hit by a very drunk driver travelling
at huge speed. As a result, I could not walk or move my neck
at all and had unbearable back & neck pain. A friend referred me to Adrienne and I have been amazed by the results.
Within a few hours of treatment, I could partially move my
head one way and I knew Adrienne was an expert when she knew
exactly where my pains were and to what degree, without my
even telling her. Since the accident, I have had a series
of treatments with Adrienne and have improved substantially. I am happy to recommend
her treatment for severe Whiplash Injury.”
Penny Lipson - Housewife (Chronic Pain - Spinal Fusion)
Penny
had a spinal fusion in November 2001 following many years
of severe back trouble. “I spent a period of three weeks in
hospital, wore a hard body brace for three months and was
told to expect it to take up to two years to reach full recovery.
After 8 months of intensive physio and general rehabilitation,
I was told I could go back to the gym and start to exercise
again. However, every time I did so, I ended up back at physio,
having aggravated some part of my body or another. I was really
in despair, I hardly dared go to the gym and having initially
made what was deemed an excellent recovery I felt I was going
backwards and starting to stiffen up.”
Penny joined the B4 Programme in June 2003. “Adrienne’s
classes have completely changed all that for me – they are
in my opinion, the answer to what is needed post surgery or
for people with injuries. I
only wish such a programme had been inbuilt into the rehabilitation
programme as a matter of course. I am learning in a gentle,
comfortable and controlled way to mobilise every joint and
muscle and to gradually regain and build up strength, which
is so vital to avoiding future problems. I feel I need never
go back to a gym, something I have done for a period of about
20 years, as I know I am working every bit of my body, but
without adding stress to it or causing further problems. I
cannot stress enough what a relief this is or recommend her
programme more highly.”
David
Thurston - Freelance Photographer (Parkinson's Disease)
“Adrienne
Golembo clearly has a deep understanding of the particular
problems facing people with Parkinson’s and how to help them
overcome them. I suffered with severe pain for some time from
tendon problems in my neck and shoulders and was seeing a
physiotherapist which did not help. A radical rethink on the
way I sit at my computer desk, together with a series of tailored
exercises sorted out the problem very quickly. Her
advice on how best to walk, sit and stand without freezing
and sleep were a revelation”.
Ameeta
Sharma (Chronic Pain)
A friend found a leaflet for Adrienne Golembo at the Aspire
centre in Stanmore and suggested I call her. Making that call
changed my health and attitude toward my back. Adrienne
is a refreshing change from all the other professionals who
gave me no hope for improvement and told me to accept that
this was as good as it was ever going to get. Adrienne gave me every indication that she could help me and
within a few days of visiting her and a Home Assessment, my
back improved dramatically. I have followed her advice and her exercise regime to the
letter, and am in my tenth month without pain.
Howard Thomas (Parkinson's
Disease)
I have suffered from Parkinson’s
Disease for almost 23 years. My walking has improved since
enrolling with Adrienne Golembo and I have not needed to use
a wheelchair as much as previously. Adrienne has a deep knowledge
and understanding of the body and how it is affected by Parkinson’s
Disease. She has devised for me a programme of exercises to
improve my mobility and the control of muscles. She is punctilious
in devising the correct exercise for a particular limb or
set of muscles. I am learning to use my arms to control movement
when walking – a very simple action which most people take
for granted but which Parkinson’s people need reminding of
constantly. No other specialist has ever told me of the important
part arms play in walking. I am grateful to her for her clear
explanations of the object of each exercise and why she is “prescribing” it for me. She has given me hope. I
cannot recommend her highly enough.
Leslie
Lypowitz - Accountant MD (Acute
episodes of pain)
“Enjoyable to do exercises – need
the discipline to exercise, I attend weekly on a regular basis
and have had no serious pain for over 5 years”. Leslie continues to attend maintenance classes regularly.
John Cowen - MD (Chronic
Pain)
“The
plan is fantastic. Between January and March 2002 I was attending
physiotherapy and taking Diclofenac. The physiotherapy helped
and to get me more mobile and I then started the Building
Better Backs and Bodies programme in April. Each class made
me feel progressively better and having done the exercises
daily, my back got better week by week. After 10 weeks it
was the best it has been in years. After 7 weeks of classes
I stopped taking tablets. I am now considerably stronger and
able to do more exercise in moderation. This includes walking
for 1 hour, cycling and for 2 hours per week and occasionally
playing Tennis. The tennis can sometimes cause problems but
I manage any aches and pains by doing the exercises, using
ice and lying in the Relaxation position.” 01/10/2002
Jon is in the third course which will be end in Jan 2003.
Marjorie Barnett - Retired
Court Usher (Chronic
pain)
I am delighted with the BBB & B course.
After only three weeks I can say in all honesty that I now
have periods of time each day without pain. Something I have
not experienced for many years. You have to be prepared to
work for results but with application the reduction in pain
level for me has been dramatic. (May 2002). Marjorie continues to attend maintenance classes.
Sheila Metzger- Charity Coordinator (Chronic
pain)
“The programme has given me so much
more mobility and the majority of the time I am free of pain.
When I do have pain it is usually due to doing too much and
I do what Adrienne has taught me to get rid of it. I have
felt so much better in myself since I have been doing the
exercises regularly and I continue to attend classes most
weeks.”
