Parkinson’s Disease

The B4 principles have been successfully applied to helping people with Parkinson’s Disease since 1999. We have further enhanced our Parkinson’s treatment with the use of exercises for Parkinson’s using chair based exercises with inspirational & positive music as well as dancing, conducting and group sharing.

Our methods of Parkinson’s treatment examine the day to day activities which may be affected by Parkinson’s disease and help you to deal with these hindrances using a variety of techniques. Movement in Parkinson’s is affected by tremor, dyskinesia, stiffness, muscle pain, falls and freezing.

Parkinson’s freezing occurs more frequently when passing through doorways, stepping up a stair or into a car or getting out of the bed in the morning. Parkinson’s freezing can be frightening and cause immense stress and this in turn exacerbates the situation. We will teach you methods to “trick” the mind to quickly get out of Parkinson’s freezing episodes

In order to minimize the risk of falling, you will learn how to stand in a far more stable position using your thighs to support your body rather than your lower back. Your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles provide further stability.

Parkinson’s treatment for pain varies depending on where and what is causing the pain. Back, shoulder, neck and hip pain is often a symptom and contributing factor to the discomfort of Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s Massage can be of great help by relaxing the body, reducing muscle spasm and there is evidence that it can aid with depression as well constipation using abdominal massage. See Remedial Massage for more information

“ Adrienne has a deep knowledge and understanding of the body and how it is affected by Parkinson’s Disease. She has devised a programme of exercises to improve my mobility and the control of muscles. She is punctilious in devising the correct exercise for a particular limb or set of muscles”

The Benefits of Exercise for Parkinson’s:

Regular exercise for Parkinson’s as well as dancing and stretching can help to increase your mobility, strengthen muscles, stabilize your body, keep muscles and joint functioning better and enhance your fitness levels and overall health.

You should aim to make exercise an integral part of your daily routine as there is evidence to show that this may help to slow down Parkinson’s. Exercise for Parkinson’s can also help to reduce stress levels.

As part of our Parkinson’s treatment we offer an initial consultation in your own home followed by a tailor-made program to address your own symptoms. The Home Assessment is highly beneficial and strongly recommended to examine and deal with the challenges you are facing daily in your own environment.
