My name is Adrienne Golembo and I can teach you how to take control of your back and neck pain. I have over 35 years of experience treating back and neck pain as well as working with Parkinson’s disease since 1999. I understand how frustrating and debilitating back & neck pain can be and the effect it has on your life because I have lived through it myself. I was involved in a car accident at the age of 16 and suffered a severe whiplash injury and lower back pain.Despite treatment I continued to have acute episodes of neck and back pain and general chronic lumbar pain for many years. I functioned normally most of the time, but there were many times when my back or neck would suddenly go in to spasm. I lived in fear of when the next attack would occur and to what extent it would restrict my activities. I tried medication, traditional therapies, alternative therapies; even surgery, but nothing worked long term. |
Eventually, after more than 20 years of suffering, I realised that I would have to learn to help myself and try and get control of the pain.
I started to examine the way I carried out every activity and discovered that I was repeatedly straining muscles by using my body incorrectly. I gradually changed the way I carried out everyday activities such as bending, standing, lifting, walking and started using different muscles to support my body. I also developed a series of mobilising, stretching, relaxation and strengthening movements and exercises designed to get the body functioning at optimum level. This combination of postural correction, pain prevention, mobilising and stretching exercises, together with relaxation techniques completely changed my life. Hence this self help program evolved into the Building Better Backs & Bodies (B4) Programme. Since 1997, I have been teaching the B4 Programme to help people like you with both acute and chronic pain to take control of their lives.
So, whether you have whiplash, stiffness, hyper mobility, sciatica, postural problems or muscle spasm, I designed the B4 programme to help you. By following the programme you will develop better ways of performing everyday tasks to enable you stabilize your body. You will also learn to alleviate, reduce, control and ultimately prevent your back and neck pain yourself.
The B4 programme is suitable for anyone of any age who has mobility problems, stiffness or pain (whether constant or recurring), including pregnant women and people with Parkinson’s disease. It’s also excellent for rehabilitation after illness or surgery and for preventing pain in children and teenagers.
B4 was devised by Adrienne Golembo, a Remedial Masseuse & Movement Therapist & Back Pain Therapist, who originally developed the programme to help reduce her own pain and has been successfully teaching people how to help themselves since 1997.
In 2000 B4’s Back Pain Therapist Adrienne Golembo developed our manual for the programme. This was monitored, edited and endorsed by Chartered Physiotherapist Hilda Walsh who at that time was Lead Physiotherapist and Back Pain Specialist with the City & Hackney Back Pain Program in London UK. It was further approved by the then Suprintendent Physiotherapist Ann-Marie Hesselkamp at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore in order for the methods to be taught at ASPIRE (Association for Spinal Injury Rehabilitation) which is based in the grounds of the RNOH.
